Science Week- Cheers Bio Club!

31/08/2018

The Science Club of my school which includes a whole committee of teachers and students hoisted this pan-school event during 9-11 August. Students across all grades from 1st to 12th participated in various quizzes, practical demonstrations and exhibitions.

Biology Club was specially involved in a large part of the event owing to the deep interest of a lot of students in Biology. My whole team supervised the Biology activities, and teachers were very co-operative in heeding to all our ideas.

Pen-paper quizzes were conducted across classes which had knowledge that added to the school curriculum and were largely scientific aptitude based. They were designed by teachers and students of the Biology club and thoroughly verified by me. The children did really well.

Here I give the specific examples wherein the children enjoyed the most. Students from junior classes were given special demonstrations in lab of water transport in plants using colored water and stem pieces. They were also asked to model out their own ecosystems and made to understand the roles of each trophic levels using daily life examples by the student members of the club. Trips to the big school garden freshened their liking to be with nature. They were shown the vegetable plantations in the school which were done earlier in the year as a part of promoting organic farming by the biology club members. The children learnt which parts of the vegetables remain above and below the ground and were indeed delighted. Going towards the activities of the seniors, there were exhibitions which majorly involved making working models of the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, nervous etc. systems and also of working of the human eye and ear. This visual delight sharpened the students understanding by a huge deal. The students were actively explaining the systems to visitors. The models are now displayed in the school biology lab for continuous enrichment.

For showcasing their biological temperament, the biology club awarded all the involved students with excellence and participation certificates. Even the certificates were designed such that they included important facts about several biological phenomena like camouflaging. Hence, no aspect was without biology, and the children were continuously in touch with the subject.

The club has observed that the approach of the students towards biology has changed. So, we promise to have more such events in school.

Amazing effort put by the children. Congratulations to all bio club members for the huge success!
